  • (About)

When the First World War broke out in 1914, Sønderjylland was part of Germany. Denmark stayed neutral, but around 35,000 men from the region were called up to fight in German uniform. Roughly 6,000 never came home, and 4,000 returned disabled.

At Sønderborg Slot, Museum Sønderjylland tells their story through eleven rooms, each with its own theme. Flowerhaus created the entire digital layer of the exhibition.

(On set)

We filmed all fourteen monologues over a few days in March 2023 in a blacked-out studio. One actor at a time, looking directly into the lens, dressed in authentic clothing from the period and lit by a single lamp. No set and almost no props. In the exhibition the screens are mounted in full height, so you stand face to face with the person telling their story.
